Aspetar, the Gulf’s first specialised Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, provides multi-disciplinary sports medicine services, supported by target-oriented research and education. A team of internationally renowned clinicians and scientists work together, combining best practice with the latest evidence, to protect the health of athletes. Prevention is key to our strategy and this is reflected in our comprehensive screening programme, research into injury and illness risk factors and causes, and commitment to the education of athletes. Our sports science services optimise health and performance through individually tailored training and recovery plans, whilst our focus centres complete Aspetar’s unique concept to enable athletes to reach their full potential. An increasing number of regional and international athletes seeking treatment at Aspetar testify to our achievements. Through the National Sports Medicine Programme, we provide services to all registered athletes within Qatar’s Sports Clubs and Federations, and to all sports events in Qatar, from national tournaments to World Championships. The Healthy Lifestyle Programme inspires physical activity and smart diet choices to combat chronic disease and nurture vibrant communities. In 2015, we became a regional reference centre for the Exercise is Medicine® initiative of the American College of Sports Medicine. Aspetar is a teaching hospital of Weill Cornell Medical College Qatar, as well as being accredited by the Gulf Cooperation Council as a specialist hospital for the region, by the International Olympic Committee as an IOC Research Centre for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health, and by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association as a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence.
